Indian Folk Art Painting

Indian folk art painting has always been an integral part of Indian civilization. It’s a centuries old tradition which reflects instinctive human expressions. Folk art painting is a medium through which the native Indians or common people express themselves. One can find images being painted and sketched on walls, pans, dried leaves, pots, village houses, papers, clothes etc. folk paintings are executed in every possible way, on every possible medium. It’s more of a way of living for common folks and expressing their innermost urge and decorating their homes in their own creative way.

 

The most common themes of folk paintings are, mythical figures, legends, gods and goddesses and a common man’s life. Generations have kept on passing this art and that has helped in the survival of this finery art. It all started in prehistoric period as cave paintings. Most renowned folk arts are Madhubani paintings, Patachitra, Warli paintings etc. these glorious form of arts were always hidden in anonymity but their discovery has led to world-wide acclaim and appreciation. Indian culture is lucky to have such gems which symbolize art at its natural best. These folk art paintings follow no principle, have no formal training or guidance but they are inspired by real life events like festivals, family occasions, rituals, domestic beautification, harvesting etc.  

 

Folk paintings have multidimensional facets. Considering Indian diversity, every region has different color, form, expression, shape used in folk art. However, themes and styles have remained the same over the ages and that makes folk art paintings even more priceless. Few things have remained in their natural form avoiding modernity. Indian art truly represents India’s rich culture that is very much alive and flourishing.
